Karan: I can never make a film without Shahrukh

Thursday, March 26, 2009

It’s a reaffirmation of their friendship, this film that Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar are co-producing called My Name Is Khan.

The ‘Khan’ in the title is incidental; SRK’s character in the film is Rizwan Khan, who is autistic with limited social interaction abilities. Apparently, the film has generated interest among Indian and overseas distributors already. Karan is aware that he’s on thin ice, directing a film that has characters and situations he’s unfamiliar with.“I am the wrong man to direct this film,” he admits. But at the heart of My Name Is Khan is a tender love story and at directing that, Karan is king. “How can I not have romance in my films?” he asks. “Every filmmaker has to evolve some time. I wanted to make a film in the realm outside my comfort zone. And Shibani Bhatija came up with this mind-blowing script that challenged my abilities,” he says.

His lead actor has a witty reply when asked about being the film’s co-producer too. “Karan doesn’t want to pay me what others do, which is very little, so he said, ‘I can’t underpay you like this, so you be my partner.’ That’s how we’re producing this film,” laughs SRK. Karan admits, “It’s true, I can never put down his price on paper. But considering we were both passionate about the subject, we said why not co-produce the film? We’ve known each other so long (their dostana is 16-years-old) that this new initiative is just an extension of our emotions. Besides, I can never make a film without Shah Rukh. He is a big part of me and my family. He’s like the older brother I never had. I love SRK as a unit — that includes his wife, children, sister and his in-laws.” So, a huge set has been put up at Mehboob Studios and shooting is on with Kajol. Shah Rukh, who is still recuperating from his shoulder surgery, will join the unit by the end of this month.

Whether it is infidelity or homosexuality, Karan hasn’t hesitated to push the envelope and break barriers in the kind of films he is making. His last film, Dostana, directed by Tarun Mansukhani, was among the biggest hits of 2008 and crossed Rs 100 crore. Both SRK and he are determined to push their production houses to the top slot in Bollywood. While SRK is producing Ra-1 and Happy New Year this year, Karan has Wake Up Sid directed by Ayaan Mukherjee, another untitled film by Renzil D’Souza and an animation film Koochie Koochie Hota Hai. “I’m giving new directors a chance and am open to good scripts,” says Karan, “Being in mainstream cinema gives production houses like ours the edge to reach a wider audience. It’s time to move forward.” How was the emotional reconnect with Kajol after eight years? “Shah Rukh and Kajol are indispensable. She’s one of the most talented actresses of Hindi cinema. Every time we wrap up a film, both of us cry, while Shah Rukh looks at us in amusement and asks, ‘What’s wrong?’” says Karan in exasperation.

Tips in Camera Battery Using and Maintenance

Digital camera is an "electric tiger", which eat a lot of electric, if your battery does not match or pay no attention to saving, the battery will run out when you does not take a few photos. Battery usage could be save by following approach: first, avoid using zoom operation unnecessary; second, to avoid frequent use of flash, flash is a big electrical consumption, we must using as fewer as fewer as we can; Third, use the viewfinder will be better than the LCD when adjust the screen and composition browser. Because most digital cameras are consume more electricity due to open the LCD viewfinder, shut down it will enable the battery backup time growth in two or three times; Fourth, to minimize the use of Continuous function. Most of continuous functions of digital cameras using the cache built-in to preserve digital photos temporarily. Lot of electricity required if use these caches regular. Therefore, to reduce the use of Continuous and dynamic function of the video clips shot will take great help on the power save.

A lot of tips needed also in rechargeable batteries, rechargeable batteries just bought have very low or no electricity generally, should be charged before use. The charging time depends on the charger and battery used, and the factors such as voltage stability. If this is a battery the first time to use, lithium-ion battery must be charged more than six hours, Ni-MH battery must be more than 14 hours, or you will short the battery life. Normally few charge / discharge process would be taken in order to achieve optimum efficiency. And to ensure the battery life do not charge when when there is residual power in battery. Battery will be very hot After fully charged, loaded in the camera after it cool.

Battery cleaning is necessary to avoid the problem of electricity wastage. Maintain both ends of the contact point and the internal battery lid in the battery clean, use a soft, clean dry cloth graze if necessary, do not clean your digital camera, batteries, or charger use sexual or chemical cleaning, such as solubility things. The batteries must be to remove from your digital camera if you plan not to use a digital camera a long time, and full discharge it (some of charger with this feature, if not available, use low resistance electrical short the battery until all the power discharged), stored in dry, cool environment, and not to store the battery with metal objects. Store a battery full charged, we can't put it in purse, pocket, bag or other container with metal objects in to prevent short circuit.

Credit cards in ATMs

Many credit cards can also be used in an ATM to withdraw money against the credit limit extended to the card, but many card issuers charge interest on cash advances before they do so on purchases. The interest on cash advances is commonly charged from the date the withdrawal is made, rather than the monthly billing date. Many card issuers levy a commission for cash withdrawals, even if the ATM belongs to the same bank as the card issuer. Merchants do not offer cashback on credit card transactions because they would pay a percentage commission of the additional cash amount to their bank or merchant services provider, thereby making it uneconomical.
Many credit card companies will also, when applying payments to a card, do so at the end of a billing cycle, and apply those payments to everything before cash advances. For this reason, many consumers have large cash balances, which have no grace period and incur interest at a rate that is (usually) higher than the purchase rate, and will carry those balance for years, even if they pay off their statement balance each month.

Aamna Sharif : Aftab really made me comfortable

She is an extremely popular name and face on Indian television courtesy her portrayal of ‘Kashish’ in TV serial ‘Kahin To Hoga’. Now the extremely pretty and talented Aamna Shariff is all set to make her big Bollywood debut with the romantic comedy Aloo Chaat. In an exclusive interview with us, Aamna speaks about her first film, her first co-star Aftab and her love for all kinds of Chaats.

Aloo Chaat is your debut film in Bollywood. How do you feel?I feel great. Before I started doing T.V., I was modeling for a couple of years. I did a few ads and music videos and always wanted to start off with a film. But one fine day I was offered a T.V. show, ‘Kahin To Hoga’, the script of which was so good that I simply couldn’t refuse it. Today I am proud that I started with television and finally here I am doing something which I always wanted to do. So it’s a dream come true for me.How did you bag the film and what made you say yes?Post ‘Kahin To Hoga’, I took a break for a year and a half and heard a lot of scripts. I actually wanted to debut with an out and out romantic film but when I heard the script of Aloo Chaat it was such a wonderful script with clean humour that I didn’t think twice. I am glad that I took it up as my first film
The film seems like a romantic comedy. Can you elaborate?Yes Aloo Chaat is a light hearted romantic comedy. It’s a very sweet film with some really chatpata characters.

What’s your role in the film?My character’s name is Aamna in the film. She is a Muslim girl who is born and raised in the US. Though she has been in US, her values are very much Indian which is why when she first comes to India, she is seen mostly in Indian attire. She is a sweet, fun loving and family oriented girl.

How was it working with Aftab, your first co-star?It has been a wonderful experience. Aftab is not just a very good actor but a very good human being. Initially I was a bit nervous as Aftab is very good at comedy and I needed to match his timing but he really made me comfortable and we really hit off. We even share the same Sun-Sign. I am happy that people are liking our chemistry

The film also has Linda Arsenio, so are you two girls vying for Aftab’s attention? Is it a love triangle?I wouldn’t like to say much about that. You need to watch it for yourself (laughs). As for Linda, all I can say is that she is a complete pleasure to work with.

How was it working with director Robby Grewal? It was great. Robby is new age, young and is very clear with what he wants. He is the kind of director who gives you complete freedom as an actor.

The first thing that comes to one’s mind when we say Aloo Chaat is the yummy chaats so are you a chaat person?I am a complete chaat person. I love all kinds of chaats. In fact, my mom keeps telling me to go easy on chaats (laughs) but I enjoy them nevertheless and then work out a little more. My all time favorite chaat is Pani Puri.

Coming back to your career, now that you have made your debut in Bollywood, is it good-bye to T.V.?I would never say goodbye to television. That is so harsh. Whatever I am today is because of T.V. so I would never make such a statement. All I would say is I like to concentrate on one thing at a time and right now I am focusing on doing films.

How similar or different is it shooting for a T.V. serial and working in a Bollywood film? The big difference is that when you are doing T.V. show, you don’t know where to take your character graph and which track the serial will be heading in. In films, you have the script ready with you and know where to take the character.

Your good-friend Rajeev Khandelwal made a super debut last year with Aamir. Did you get to see the film?Of course I saw the film. It’s a lovely film and Rajeev is brilliant. You need a lot of guts to take such a film for your debut and he really lived up to all expectations.

What kind of roles are you looking at doing now?I don’t want to have any particular mindset. I would like to do every role that is challenging rather than go with easy characters. At the same time, I would love to do a hard core romantic role and even do a role without make-up
Any dream actors and directors you would wish to work with…I am just starting out. I would obviously like to work with all the great directors and actors. I have always admired the way Aamir Khan has worked so I would like to work with him.

What are your future projects?I have signed a film but can’t talk much about it. Right now I am just waiting for the audience reactions to Aloo Chaat.

Finally give us 3 good reasons to watch Aloo Chaat? It’s a very well directed film, has some brilliant characters and is a really sweet, clean, funny film.

Avoid Using Credit Cards

Step1

Remember that every time you swipe a credit card, you're borrowing money you don't have, and digging yourself further into debt. Look at your credit card and repeat it to yourself, over and over again, until it's the first thing that comes to your mind whenever you see that card in your hand.

Step2

Scale back to one card. Close all the other accounts, and cut up the cards. Yes, closing several accounts at once may ding your credit score a bit, but if you're going to be living a debt-free lifestyle from now on, that little ding isn't going to make a difference. Credit scores only matter when you try to borrow money you don't have!

Step3
Leave your one credit card at home. It's too tempting to use it if it's immediately available in your wallet. Your credit card should only be used when you need to make an immediate purchase (like an airline ticket), but need time to transfer the money to your checking account (from a savings or other account). It should NOT be used to purchase items you don't have the money for! After using your card, immediately transfer the money you need and pay it off. Don't wait for interest to accrue.

Step4
Manage your money with an online tool such as Mvelopes, where you can see all of your accounts in one place. Log on every day to balance your checking account transactions and schedule bill payments, so you know exactly how much money you have available for each category (gas, groceries, clothes) at any given moment. See my article "How to Manage Your Money Online" for more info.

Step5
Use cash or debit card only. Now that you know exactly how much money is available, you'll be more likely to stay under that limit. You know what this means, though. When the money runs out, STOP SPENDING! If you use cash or debit only, you'll have no choice but to be more careful and deliberate about your spending.

Step6
If you're having trouble learning how to curb your spending, put cash into designated envelopes in your wallet or purse, and leave your debit card at home (to prevent overdraw and impulse purchases). When your grocery money envelope is empty, you have to stop, period. Studies have shown that the action of counting out dollar bills and handing them over is psychologically more painful than swiping a card, which is why you tend to spend less when using cash.

Step7
Attend a personal money management class like Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University to give you a practical plan for eliminating debt and building wealth, and help keep you inspired, educated and accountable.

Step8
Get rid of tempting credit card offers in the mail. Log on to www.optoutprescreen.com and follow the directions to opt out of unwanted credit card offers and other financial junk mail.

Step9
Ask for help. If you still cannot seem to control your spending and impulse purchases, get whatever help you need, whether from a financial advisor or even a therapist who specializes in compulsive behaviors.
