TweetyShow 1.0 for iPhone – Shows Photos Being Posted on Twitter, Live

Tuesday, August 31, 2010

Nicolas Seriot and Anton Anton today are pleased to announce the release of TweetyShow 1.0 for iPhone and iPod touch devices. TweetyShow shows photos posted on Twitter in real time. iPhone users can scroll through an endless grid of photos coming live from the Twitter-sphere. The result is a strange, addictive and poetic experience. Whereas Twitter communication is traditionally text only, Twitter users frequently post links to photos, using services like Twitpic or Yfrog. TweetyShow’s goal is to put these photos in the spotlight.
TweetyShow has nothing to do with traditional Twitter clients. Indeed, it does not even require a Twitter account, or any kind of registration. People can download TweetyShow and start watching a continuous stream of photos right away. When people using TweetyShow particularly like a photo, they can save it to their iPhone photo library, or send it by email to a friend. They can also display all the photos of any Twitter user, or search by name for a Twitter user they know.

Fridge magnets look like iPhone icons

Sunday, August 29, 2010

For you all you magnet lovers out there, check these out! The individual magnets look like the icons form the iPhone home screen and can be arranged to whatever design you want. Each of the magnets measures 7/8? x 7/8? and are made from some sort of epoxy. The outer cardboard packaging is 9.5? x 5?.
It’s not clear if the iPhone looking frame in the picture above is included or just for showing off the magnets on the website. The company points out that the magnets are not affiliated with Apple. I have to wonder if Apple will go after these guys to stop them from ripping off their icons. You can get your own set now for $12.99 with free shipping if you order three sets.

Muzatch MZH-1200 solar charger for iPhone proves sometimes green isn’t pretty

The charger plugs into the charge and sync port of the iPhone and weighs 9.8 ounces. It has four LED lights to show the charge mode and a solar panel for getting juice from the sun. You can pick one up for right under $50 in blue, black, silver, white, or green colors.

Magic Card 2.0.1 – Clever iPhone Illusion used by Pro Magicians On Sale

Monday, August 23, 2010

Most iPhone magic apps use unsatisfying virtual playing cards, but Renditions Design’s “Magic Card” uses a real deck of cards and the iPhone’s camera to create the convincing illusion that Apple’s amazing device came with the power to see through cards. Although popular with professional magicians, the clever secret is actually easy enough for anyone to do on their first try. This week Magic Card was completely re-written to incorporate the latest iPhone OS improvements, and the price was lowered to $2.99 for a short time.

Company founder Dylan Malone, who has studied magic since childhood, saw the iPhone as the perfect magic gadget from the instant it was unveiled. Now Apple seems to have caught on. “Apple markets their newest iPhone OS device as, ‘a magical and revolutionary product,’ and I couldn’t agree more,” said Malone with a smile. “But they did need a few good magic apps to make these products as magical as the tagline.”

What the trick looks like: A spectator chooses a card and places it face down on the table. They pick the iPhone up, wake it from sleep, and launch the camera app. Then the performer, explaining that the iPhone seems to be able to do almost anything, snaps a picture of the back of the card and shows it around. Finally, they start to slowly shake the phone until suddenly the spectator realizes that their card is now face up in the photo, revealing their choice!

BlackBerry Users Willing to Swap for an iPhone

Saturday, August 21, 2010

BlackBerry is still the most popular smartphone brand in terms of market share, Crowd Science’s study shows, but many Research In Motion devices users would be more than happy to move to a different smartphone platform if given the chance.

The study also found that the majority of smartphone users claim to use their devices for both business and personal purposes. BlackBerry users were the most likely (7 percent) to use their smartphone for business purposes only.

Unlike BlackBerry users, though, Android and iPhone users are less willing to move to a different mobile phone platform. The study shows that nine out of ten of those questioned would re-purchase their own brand.

“Blackberry as a brand just isn’t garnering the loyalty seen with other mobile operating systems,” said Crowd Science CEO John Martin. He explains that not only the “allure of the iPhone”, but also Google Android’s rise in popularity, are creating a dent in BlackBerry’s brand following.

52 Ways to Promote Your iPhone App

Monday, August 16, 2010

Publicist and Internet Marketing Specialist Scott Lorenz has compiled a list of 52 tips on how to promote an iPhone App – tips he garnered from his extensive experience as a public relations professional in promoting all types of products, inventions, books and services. Apple has almost 150,000 iPhone applications available for sale at its App Store and this number will grow exponentially with the growing popularity of the iPhone, iPod and the new iPad.

“The competition is fierce so in order to succeed you must aggressively promote your iPhone app if you want a fighting chance,” says Scott Lorenz President of Westwind Communications Public Relations firm. westwindcos.com

What’s the best way to promote your app? “There is no “best” way,” says Lorenz. “You must employ multiple tactics to crack the success code. Simply relying on word of mouth is not enough. You need to get the attention of the news media. Just look how fast the TigerText app got traction after it was featured by CNN and Time Magazine. Shortly after those news organizations featured it other media outlets jumped on the bandwagon and promoted it as well. This has led to people talking about it at the water cooler, at Starbucks and everywhere else,” said Lorenz, “that’s the power of PR.”

Sunday, August 15, 2010

ClayTracker, the first hand-held Sporting Clays scoring app for the iPhone and iPod touch has just released its latest upgrade that includes scoring screens for American, English & Olympic/International Skeet.

ClayTracker simplifies scoring by eliminating the need for pencils, scorecards, and manually adding scores during or after the round. Shooters can instantly view their totals and standings, then begin scoring another round with the touch of a button. ClayTracker combines multiple round totals, tracks shooter rotation and also prompts the “Option” shot upon scoring the first “lost bird” in American and English Skeet.

Apple removes iPhone covers from store

Thursday, August 12, 2010

Apple has pulled screen protectors from their stores, arguing that the iPhone and iPad should be tough enough without them.

iLounge noticed empty shelves in the Apple shop this morning as Cupertino pulled listings for screen protectors, on the grounds that the availability of scratch-resistant plastic covers undermines confidence in reliability of the unprotected hardware.

Companies making such products have apparently been in talks with Apple for a while, unsurprising given that screen protectors are the number-one iPhone accessory. But Apple has decided that all screen-adhering films will be delisted even if the stated function is glare reduction or mirroring rather than protection – Apple brooks no suggestion that its screens aren’t perfect.

Excelltech’s new iPhone Alarm Clock App Announces Time When Asked

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

The recently released ‘Wake Up Now? – Alarm Clock’ application for iPhone and iPod touch aims to help light sleepers get a good nights rest. The first thing one thinks when awaking before the alarm sounds is, “How much longer till the alarm?”. Answering this question used to require turning ones head and squinting at the clock. Now, groggy risers simply need to give an audible grunt to get the answer they seek.

“I have bad eyesight”, said developer Ed Williams. “Whenever I wake up too early I have to reach over and put on my glasses to tell the time. By the time I’ve distinguished the numbers on my alarm clock, even if I have three more hours to sleep, I can’t fall back asleep.”

To solve this problem Ed created “Wake Up Now? – Alarm Clock”, an alarm clock for iPhone and iPod touch that will announce the time when it detects a loud enough sound. Using this app one can remain in bed, eyes closed, and simply sigh, grunt, or say “Wake Up Now?”, and one will immediately know wither to try and go back to sleep or rise and begin the day.
